Panic Attacks and Anxiety Disorders - My TEDx Talk

A while back I mentioned that I was going to do a TEDx Talk about my experience living with an anxiety disorder and its associated panic attacks. Well the event happened, I survived it and managed to pull off a good talk. And now the video of my talk is available online! Watch, learn, share, enjoy.

  2. Wow! Good for you; that was awesome and it must have been hard to do. I never knew there was a name for "intrusive thoughts." I just always called them "the reason I have to leave the tv on to fall asleep."

  3. Oh love. You NAILED IT. Never once did your anxiety show. And just know that I never ever want to show up to an event without you - anxiety and all. It totally gives credibility to my whole "I totally know Glow less" thing that I've got going on!
Seriously, did not notice a thing.
Except the fact that Dame Edna was a way better and far more entertaining navigator than Siri. Even if she was also slightly disorientated a couple of times, . kaven

  4. inspiring talk!
This is really a great chair for us. It provides good info to understand all about the anxiety attacks. The best remedies which helped me in treating this disease are herbal supplements. You may read about them here http://www.searchhomeremedies.com/top-11-herbal-remedies-for-anxiety-attacks/

  5. Sure. Any panic attack is quick as well as lasts for the short period (few minutes to a day). Anxiousness is something is a smaller amount intense.

  6. I just watched your TED video, thank you so much for spreading awareness :) I've had a combination of OCD, social anxiety disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder ever since I was a kid, and it's the pits. I think anxiety is one of the most misunderstood mental health issues out there, you are so right about how people telling you to "not worry so much" etc. is like telling a physically wounded person to "just stop bleeding". It's a lot harder than it sounds. I think one of the biggest problems related to anxiety awareness is that a lot of people don't understand what it really feels like to go through a panic attack, or be pelted constantly by ruminating thoughts, or worry that if you don't touch an object just right, you will start a chain of events that causes horrible things to happen to the people you love, even though logically it might not make any sense. I think when you showed what a panic attack is really like, that was great, because it really showed the intensity of the situation. Again thanks, it was a great and informative video, I hope the whole world watches it!

  7. Dear Alison, thank you for your talk. You did great. You are so brave!!!! Thank you for normalizing the panic attacks and OCD both for sufferers and those around them. There`s one thing I wanted to ask you: have you ever come across the program/method that teach you how to END panic attacks and OCD? From what I understand you are MANAGING PA and OCD and live with them, and it seems that you are pretty successful at that, but would you like to try to END them? If you are interested, I can share with you some ideas that helped me stop PA and significantly reduce my general anxiety level.

  11. Alison, thank you so much for giving this talk. I have been trying to understand my husband's anxiety and panic attacks and how to help him. Thanks to you I have a much better picture. He recently had a bad fall and your talk makes me wonder if the worsened condition is related to that.
You are amazingly brave and have an incredibly giving heart to be willing to overcome all it takes to give this talk. God has something special in mind for your life, I'm sure. You make an incredible difference.
    Thank you.
